The Chrome Web Store is a highly underutilized market. It is full of useful enhancements to improve your browsing experience, each refining a unique aspect of the Chrome browser. The benefits that come from taking advantage of them quickly stack up and amount to a major productivity leverage in the long run.

But you already know that and that is why you are here. Here are some of the most useful Chrome Web Store entries I have come across:

10. Grammarly

Grammarly in action

Benefit: Flawless grammar and tone on everything you write.

If you are like me, your job involves writing a lot of emails and articles. When you are pressured for time, the last thing on your mind is grammar. Grammarly takes care of that and not only fixes your spelling, but actively checks your tone and style — all in real-time. You are gonna be writing with twice the efficiency!

9. Google Translate

“Нямам представа какво пише тук.”

—You, right now

Benefit: Quick and effortless understanding of foreign language.

This one you already know. The extension makes it even better — you can translate foreign words and phrases in an instant, just by highlighting. Very useful for learning new words and phrases in a language — or finally finding out what your colleague’s email signature means. In any case, it makes the list, because fast access to foreign material is a great productivity booster for the workplace!

8. Clipboard History PRO

Benefit: Easy to access history of everything you copy-paste.

It is the 21st century — so why is the clipboard limited to only one thing at a time. It is an annoying limitation to constantly have to go back and forth to copy everything you need and in the end — not even have a record of what you copied.

Clipboard History PRO has come down from Mount Olympus to solve all those problems — it keeps clipboard history, has a floating window mode and the option to send clipboards directly to your phone.

7. Eagle Eye

Eagle Eye lets you preview YouTube video links in a small floating window.

Benefit: Open video links in a floating window.

With Eagle Eye you can Alt-Click a video link, eg: youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ to open it in a small floating window, without ever leaving the page. It is incredibly useful while chatting with friends, researching in Google and reading articles. It also helps with procrastination, because you’re avoiding YouTube. Simple, but effective!

6. Flare Bookmark Manager

The bookmark manager optimized for usability and speed.

Benefit: Quick and responsive bookmark management.

Chrome’s bookmark manager is less than ideal.

That is why the Chrome Web Store is full of bookmark manager extensions. However, none of them do the job properly. Saving and categorizing bookmarks should be quick and easy — a job that only this one seems to do properly.

Flare adds a dynamic sidebar that pops up when you hover over the left side of a webpage with everything you need — recently opened websites, a clean folder structure and even tab collections. Bookmarking is now a breeze.

5. DWIJ NewTab

How your New Tab page would look.

Benefit: TODO / notes manager in you New Tab.

Chrome’s default New Tab shows your most visited websites. That is useful, sure, but it can be even better. DWIJ is simple todo and notes manager that replaces your new tab with a dashboard — so you always keep track of the work you have to do.

There are more popular alternatives to this one, but I like it because it’s offline, clean and highly customizable.

4. StayFocusd

Benefit: Limit usage of addictive websites.

Productivity is ultimately about focus — and this one SHINES when it comes to focus. StayFocusd lets you set a usage time limit on websites you visit, so you don’t waste your entire day scrolling through Facebook or watching YouTube videos. Go over the limit and you’re blocked for the rest of the day. A very useful one if you have work to do.

3. Paint Tool

You can go wild with this one.

Benefit: Paint in your browser window.

Paint Tool is very useful for mock ups and explanations — sketching your idea right in your browser can really help convey your thoughts to someone productively. It is easy to use and has a wide selection of paint tools available.

2. News Feed Eradicator

Benefit: Remove social media feed.

Maybe you don’t want to waste your time on Facebook, but using StayFocusd seems like an overkill — well, this one is for you. News Feed Eradicator removes your Facebook feed and, as a gimmick, replaces it with a motivational quote. It’s a simple concept that has saved me hundreds of hours to date. Also works on Twitter, Reddit and Hacker News.

1. AdBlock

Benefit: Block spam.

Getting flooded with ads and popups on every website you visit is never fun. Supporting constructive content is great — however, a lot of the web is filled with spam, junk and sometimes scams.

AdBlock helps you block malicious and obtrusive advertisements, while allowing you to whitelist pages you want to support. Great choice if you want to focus on your work instead of ads.
